Proud father of Port Lavaca and Point Blank, this community named for John C. Calhoun is inhabited by White Non Hispanic, Latino, African American, Chinese, Vietnamese, Native American, and other racial groups. For those who are going to visit this land founded in the 1840s, there are certain locations that you cannot possibly miss such as Wynne Ranch, Indianola Fishing Center Marina, Port Alto Boat Shed Marina, Matagorda Island Lighthouse, Olivia Eden Church, Matagorda Island Wildlife Management Area, and the Matagorda Island State Park.
