About the area |
Cotter started out as one of the railroad towns and was incorporated around 1905. In its early days the town had a bustling economy with stores, hotels, banks and factories. The economy no longer depends on these enterprises; today most people come to this town to take advantage of the great Trout on the White river and the town's population is just under 1,000. The complex at Big Spring Park has a swimming hole, boat launch, picnic area, playground, the Anglin-Tinnon Railroad Workers' Memorial and the start of a walking trail which runs upstream along the White River. The Anglin-Tinnon Railroad Workers' Memorial was built to honor the part the railroad played in the history of Cotter and its workers. The memorial includes a a black granite monument, the Conductor sculpture, Missouri Pacific Caboose 11351 and Rock Island Caboose 17843, a gazebo and a kiosk with three panels describing the history of the town, the role of the railroad and the memorial listings.
