About the area |
Founded back in 1823 and named after Robert Fulton (master mind behind the steamboat), this land is the proud father of the Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge, operated by the Nature Conservancy and home of several animal species and trees such as the black walnuts and, swamp white oaks. This community is served by Lewistown City as its county seat being the home approximately of more than 2550 inhabitants and less than 2 square miles of extension; while Canton city is consider the largest city with more than 15250 residents and 8 square miles of territory. The adjacent counties to Fulton include Knox, Tazewell, and Shuyler out of a list of seven Counties, connected by the US Route 24 and 136; Illinois Routes 9, 41, 78, 95, 97, 100, and 116.
