Fort Scott's location on the Frontier Military Scenic Byway (Hwy 6900 probably contributed to the fact that at one time seven rail lines ran through it. National Cemetery No.1, which was commissioned by President Abraham Lincoln is located here. Kids and even adults will be thrilled by a visit to the Model Train exhibit on East Wall Street. The Keeney Collection, located here, provides a glimpse into Fort Scott's railroad era with electric model trains, operating layouts and Frisco Railroad memorabilia.
Gordon Parks, Fort Scott, Kansas native son, poet, photographer, choreographer and filmaker is honored by the exhibits at the Gordon Parks Center for Culture and Diversity at Fort Scott Community College.
