Winnett Court is home to the district court of Petroleum county, the Winnett Justice Court and the Winnett City Court all of which lie in the Tenth judicial district of Montana. The justice court handles all civic and traffic infractions occurring in the county with the exception of those occurring in Winnett. The only two major roads in Petroleum county, SR 200 and SR 244 meet in Winnett.

About the area

Winnett is the only town in Petroleum county. In the 1940's and the 1950's oil and gas were discovered in the area and the town experienced a surge in its economy. However, although some oil and gas production remains, it's nothing like the boom times and the agriculture in the area has seen a significant decrease. As a result there has been a large exodus from the town and many of the buildings are abandoned and on their last legs. If you like to hunt, this is a great place to visit and the single small hotel is sort of homey.
