Both the county court (Suite 5) and the district court (Suite 7) are located in the Kimball County courthouse and are each part of their respective Twelfth judicial district of Nebraska. A biggie, IS 80 runs parallel with US 30 across the middle of Kimball county and links up with SR 71 Bypass as does US 30 (via SRE 563 E Link). The SR 53 C Link connects US 30 with IS 80 in the Western part of the county.
About the area
There are six communities, including the city of Kimball, in Kimball county and they all lie along US 30. The first permanent settlement in Kimball County was established around 1868 when the Union Pacific railroad came through the area. Twenty years later Kimball county was formed from a portion of Cheyenne county and Kimball, at first called Antelopeville a water station on the Union Pacific railroad, was selected as the county seat. The county has within it the highest point in the state of Nebraska, designated as panorama point and marked by a monument which is on private property and requires a fee for a visit. What was once the old Fraternal Hall, circa 1904, is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the Plains Historical museum. The museum's exhibits include displays of Indian artifacts, antique furniture, and tools and clothing as much as 100 years old and and an "Around the World" doll collection. In City park stands a reminder of the the hidden missiles that once sat underground all around Kimball, a Titan I nuclear missile. The Oliver reservoir just a few miles West of Kimball has facilities including a campground, boat ramps and docks, swimming beach, picnic tables, picnic shelters with electricity, a large number of charcoal cooking grills and camping pads. The lake is known for its walleye, yellow perch, largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill and even some rainbow trout.
