The first courthouse in the village of Schoharie was Johannis Ingold's wagon house (Dec 1795 Judge William Beekman presiding). Around 1900, the people of Schoharie elected Mrs. Perry Taylor as mayor, the first woman mayor in New York State.

About the area |
In the 1930's, the first drive-in theatre - with sound - was right here on Main St. - literally. The road would be closed and traffic diverted on movie nights. Although the "drive-in" is gone, The Palatine House Museum (1745) and ther Lutheran Parsonage (1700's) remain, as well as many fine older homes.
