| About the area |
The Village of Ossining is located within the Town of Ossining. Ossining was originally was known as Sing Sing, (Sint Sinck) an indian village located here during Dutch settlements in the area. Sint Sinck means "stone upon stone", which refers to the limestone found in the southern part of the village. Ossining is the home of the worldwide Catholic mission movement, Maryknoll missions. The famous Sing Sing Correctional Facility is located in Ossining.
