| About the area |
The town lies along Cross creek. After settling in what is now St. Marys before 1850; some early pioneers to the region saw an opportunity 3 years later in the resettlement of the local Native Americans to purchase some of the vacated land. After the town was urveyed and settlement began the town was established and around 1881 became a city of the third class. By the next year the town had 5 general stores and a physician.
